Overview

CP 100 PRODUCT OVERVIEW

CP 100 is located at Galena Bay, a few kilometers north of the Galena Bay ferry landing. Harvesting is targeted for July and August of 2009.

PRODUCTS
Cedar

High value cedar poles are the primary market focus of this permit, with an estimated 1400 cubic meters of poles to be generated from harvesting. Only cedar greater than 37.5 cm in diameter will be removed. Preliminary indications show very little rot in most of the cedar, indicating that it will produce excellent poles, primarily in the 40 foot plus range.

Birch

Approximately 600 cubic meters of birch will be harvested. A component of this species is relatively straight, large diameter wood with good potential to produce flooring or other value-added products. The remainder will be suitable as firewood.

NACFOR is interested in obtaining expressions of interest from any individuals interested in manufacturing either on-site or off-site birch products in conjunction with this cutting permit.

Hemlock

All hemlock greater than 27.5 cm will be removed. Total volume targeted for harvesting is estimated to be 367 cubic meters. The hemlock is sound, second-growth wood potentially well-suited for flooring or moulding production.

Douglas fir

Douglas-fir will only be harvested where it must be removed in order to access targeted stems of other species. However, of the estimated 100 cubic meters to be removed, almost all of it is straight, large diameter Douglas-fir with excellent potential as specialty wood. House logs, building frame materials, poles and piling are all potential end products for this timber.

Please refer to the section on ‘Harvested Permits – CP 100’ for detailed cruise compilation data on timber harvested.
